Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year!

Dear Parkview Elementary Families,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year.  My name is Shawna Codrington and I am so excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Parkview. I am honored to have been selected to join the Parkview family, which is known far and wide for its dedication to excellence, but more importantly, to children.

I am a native San Diegan, and have worked as an educator in Chula Vista since 2012. Most recently, I have had the pleasure of being the Associate Principal at Heritage Elementary School here in the district. Prior to working in Chula Vista, I was a classroom teacher in San Diego Unified School District and La Mesa-Spring Valley School District. I consider my time teaching grades k-4, and my time as an instructional aide in a moderate/severe special day class, a true blessing and calling. My past experiences also include serving as a Master Teacher, Beginning Teacher Support Provider, and serving as a Literacy Specialist for struggling readers. I believe in promoting the development of the whole child and fostering opportunities where all children can reach their full potential.

This year, my goal is to dedicate time getting to know all of you. I will be making extended visits to each classroom to introduce myself and find out what makes each child so special. Additionally, I will be taking the time to hold meaningful sessions with each staff member to understand their interests and how I can best support their work with our children. In that same spirit, I would like to get to know every parent. Besides meeting you at drop off and pick up, I look forward to meeting you all at future coffee chats, PTA events, School Site Council meetings, English Learner Advisory Committee meetings, and other amazing activities and events on campus!

Please know, that while I will regularly dedicate a portion of each day to be in classrooms, I have an open door policy and look forward to hearing from you and meeting you. I am thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to be a proud Parkview Panther, and look forward to serving our school.

Warmly,

Shawna Codrington, Ed.D
